Modern Interior Design
This lovely modern penthouse flat in the heart of desirable Hampstead was definitely lacking something. Our client wanted something extra to take his living space to the next level of modern design. Metal, blasted glass and concrete were to be our inspiration.
To add character, an accent wall was painted in a midnight purple. This added colour during the day and warmth after dark. The skylights in the ceiling of the main lounge were picked out in the same colour to add vibrancy. Cumbersome double doors through to the landing and the private lift door were removed adding to the spacious feeling of the living room. A bespoke metal and glass display unit finishes the decor.
The stairwell was originally lit by having a section of the wall in glass. This was replaced by a section of clear glass blocks. The light was retained and a rather ugly internal window became a sophisticated design feature. The glass theme was extended to the kitchen doors. The original wooden doors were replaced with double sand-blasted glass doors. The chimney breast was treated to a concrete effect paint finish. This made it focal point of the room and lessened the crowding effect of the awkward angles in that corner of the interior.
Now the landing was opened up to the living space we could use it to feature some modern design elements. A bespoke backlit mirror was hung over a custom made, glass-topped console table, both made to complement the metal and glass display unit in the living room. Against the glittering backdrop of the glass block wall the simplicity of the bespoke metal balustrade accentuates the clean, modern feel.
